Grantham holds ribbon cutting ceremony for new campus

Grantham University held a ribbon cutting Wednesday for its new main campus in Lenexa’s Southland Corporate Park. More than 400 staff members attended the event, along with local officials. Grantham’s new location is LEED certified and has ample room to meet the staff and faculty additions expected within the next two years.

“Kansas, Johnson County, the city of Lenexa and the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce have gone out of their way to help Grantham feel at home in our new location,” said Joseph McGrath, university president. “This transition wouldn’t have gone so smoothly without the help of the Chamber and Mayor Boehm. We’ve only been residents of Kansas for a short while, but we know we’ve made the right decision for our team.”

“Congratulations to Grantham University on the formal opening of its new campus,” Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George said. “It’s fantastic that Kansas could provide the ideal environment for Grantham to locate its operations and create good jobs.”

The Kansas City area first welcomed Grantham University following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Its former campus in Slidell, Louisiana, was completely destroyed in the storm. The greater metropolitan area helped Grantham’s staff find shelter, food, clothing and medical assistance, as many moved to the area with very few belongings.
