Kansas Edge Reshoring Conference to be held Sept. 25 in Wichita

The Kansas Department of Commerce has announced that the Kansas Edge Reshoring Conference will be held on Sept. 25 at Wichita State University. The conference will highlight how Kansas is well positioned to capture opportunities in the reshoring movement to bring jobs back to the United States. Discussion will focus on potential growth areas and outline key opportunities and resources available for small and medium sized businesses. The conference will feature presentations from Kansas business leaders who have found success reshoring manufacturing work from other countries.

WHAT/WHO: Gov. Sam Brownback will welcome attendees and introduce new state resources available to promote Kansas businesses that can help companies nationwide with their reshoring needs.

Harry Moser, founder of the Reshoring Initiative, will present information about reshoring trends, opportunities and how to be successful. With more than 45 years of manufacturing experience, Moser is a leading industry spokesman for reshoring and for developing a skilled manufacturing workforce. Largely due to the success of the Reshoring Initiative, he was inducted into the 2010 IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame and named Quality Magazine’s 2012 Quality Professional of the Year.

In addition, the conference will feature the following presentations:

• Robert B. Crain, senior vice president and general manager with AGCO, will provide an overview of his company’s efforts to reshore production.
• Dr. John Tomblin, vice president for research and technology transfer for Wichita State University, will discuss the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership.
• A roundtable discussion will feature owners of small and medium-sized businesses discussing the success they have had in Kansas. Companies will include JR Custom Metal, Lee Aerospace and GTM Sportswear.

WHEN/WHERE: Registration opens at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25. Opening remarks will begin at 8:30, and the conference will conclude at 11:45 a.m. The event will be held at Wichita State University’s Metropolitan Complex, Room 180, 5015 E. 29th St. N., Wichita, KS 67220.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Those interested in attending the conference should visit to register.

MEDIA INFORMATION: A media availability session will be held from 9:45-10.
