Hong Kong Commissioner to visit Kansas on March 31

Donald Tong, the Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, will make his first official visit to Kansas on March 31. Tong will travel to Topeka to meet with Gov. Sam Brownback, Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten, Senate President Steve Morris and Commerce Secretary Pat George before giving the keynote address at a luncheon sponsored by the Department of Commerce and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco at the Dillon House. Tong will visit the University of Kansas later that afternoon.


Kansas is an important trade partner of Hong Kong. According to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Kansas exported almost $109 million in goods to the region in 2010. Hong Kong is actively developing the bioscience and environmental industries, among others, which are also core industries for the Sunflower State.


WHAT: Donald Tong, Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, makes his first official visit to Topeka and Kansas.

WHEN: Thursday, March 31. Tong will visit with Gov. Brownback and others in the morning, followed by his keynote address at a luncheon sponsored by the Department of Commerce and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco. Later that afternoon, Tong will meet with University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and address international students in Lawrence.
