KANSASWORKS will host its first ever statewide virtual career fair on Nov. 14 in conjunction with Convergys Corp., a global leader in relationship management. The company is aggressively seeking to hire home-based customer service agents in Kansas who can handle client telephone calls, web chats and e-mail inquiries for a variety of Convergys clients.
“The Convergys home agent program is one of the fastest growing parts of the company,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “This is a legitimate work-from-home career opportunity that offers a flexible alternative to the traditional office setting.”
While KANSASWORKS has used its video conferencing feature to link employers with job seekers in smaller settings before, this is the first time that almost the entire Workforce Center system will have access at one time to an employer located out of state. Job candidates will be able to visit one of 14 Workforce Centers to talk with Convergys officials in Cincinnati.
“The video conferencing system is a convenient way for an employer to meet with potential job candidates or conduct formal interviews,” said Caleb Asher, deputy secretary for Workforce Services, Kansas Department of Commerce. “The Department of Commerce hopes to expand the use of this technology in the future to bring out-of-state or remote employers closer to the workers they seek to employ.”
WHAT: Home agent career fair for Convergys Corp., sponsored by KANSASWORKS.
WHEN/WHERE: Two sessions will be offered: 9-10 a.m. and noon-1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14. Job seekers should plan to visit one of 14 KANSASWORKS Workforce Centers in Chanute, El Dorado, Emporia, Garden City, Great Bend, Hays, Independence, Junction City, Leavenworth, Overland Park, Pittsburg, Salina, Topeka or Wichita to participate. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Job seekers are encouraged to dress appropriately. KANSASWORKS staff will be available to help participants with resume preparation and job counseling services. CONVERGYS HOME AGENT INFORMATION: Home agent positions include salary, health benefits, flexible scheduling and paid training. Home agents will provide customer service support for various Convergys clients. The pay is $9 per hour plus incentives, and employees working more than 20 hours per week are eligible for benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as tuition reimbursement.
Agents must meet certain home office standards to be considered, including a quiet place to work inside their home, a personal computer that meets Convergys’ minimum standards, high-speed Internet access and a noise-canceling headset.
