KANSASWORKS to sponsor free home energy efficiency classes

KANSASWORKS and the Kansas Utility Alliance will host a statewide series of classes over the next several weeks to provide information about energy efficient residential construction and retrofit and the growing career opportunities within the field. This class is ideal for local contractors and individuals interested in following this career path.

The classes will feature Doug Rye, an architect, nationally recognized energy consultant and popular radio host, who counsels his listeners in best practices for home energy conservation. Rye will discuss a variety of topics, including renewable energy, new home construction principals, whole-house energy efficiency and energy efficiency myths.

“This is a great training opportunity for those interested in green construction, home energy conservation and energy efficient retrofit,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “Residential contractors continue to look for more and more energy efficient ways to build homes, and the career opportunities in this sector continue to grow.”

The classes are free, and lunch will be provided. Each class is eligible for three continuing education unit credits. All classes will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Class dates and locations are:

• May 1, Hays, Whiskey Creek restaurant, 3203 Vine St.
• May 2, Colby, Room 108, Colby Community College Student Union, 1255 Range.
