Governor Parkinson announces Governor’s Award of Excellence, Governor’s Exporter of the Year

HAYS - Governor Mark Parkinson tonight named Landoll Corporation of Marysville the winner of the Governor’s Award of Excellence, while Osborne Industries of Osborne was named the Governor’s Exporter of the Year, at the annual Kansas Cavalry Encampment at Fort Hays State University.

The two awards are the state’s top business honors and serve as the highlight of the Kansas Cavalry Encampment, the state’s annual celebration of Kansas business. The event is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Cavalry, a volunteer group of business leaders who promote Kansas as a business location.

“We’re honored to present Landoll Corporation and Osborne Industries with the state’s top business awards,” Governor Parkinson said. “These companies embody Kansas ingenuity and values, and they illustrate what a great place Kansas is to live, work and do business.”

Landoll Corporation is a world-class producer and distributor of manufactured products, serving clients in the industries of transportation, agricultural equipment, material handling, OEM and government. Founded in 1963 by Don Landoll as a welding repair shop, the company has grown to more than 550 employees and currently occupies more than 600,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Osborne Industries designs and manufactures innovative equipment for the management of swine operations. Osborne’s products include systems in support of animal genetics, market sorting, temperature-controlled heating pads and big wheel feeders. (Full company overviews are provided on Page 2.)

Finalists for the Governor’s Award of Excellence were Frito-Lay (Topeka), Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center (Chanute), The Cunningham Courier (Cunningham) and Walters’ Pumpkin Patch (Burns). Finalists for the Governor’s Exporter of the Year award were Bio-Microbics (Shawnee), Chemidex (Overland Park), Premier Pneumatics (Salina) and Research Products (Salina).

Tonight’s Encampment marks the culmination of Kansas Business Appreciation Month, the Kansas Department of Commerce’s annual statewide tribute to Kansas businesses for their contributions to the state.

Landoll Corporation supports numerous school activities, including the $2.6 million renovation of the St. Gregory’s Elementary School. Last summer, Landoll supplied funding, materials and labor to renovate the local airport. Since the beginning, Landoll Corporation has been involved in the economic development of Marysville. Landoll has worked with the Planning Commission to bring positive ventures to the community. Landoll was instrumental in laying the foundation for the new Walmart Super Center east of Marysville. Don was also an integral part in bringing the popular Country Place Senior Living to Marysville and is currently supporting senior housing.

In 2001, the company was named the Governor’s Exporter of the Year for excellence in international sales. Today, the company exports products to more than 30 countries.

Osborne Industries (Osborne)Founded in 1973, Osborne Industries designs and manufactures innovative equipment for the management of swine operations. Osborne’s products include systems in support of animal genetics, market sorting, temperature-controlled heating pads and big wheel feeders. The company is recognized in the industry for its design capabilities and creative use of engineered plastics.

Osborne began exporting in 1979, and today, the company’s products can be found in 39 countries. Exports account for 24 percent of total company sales and have grown 73 percent in the past three years, including a 37 percent increase from 2008-09. The company maintains offices in the United Kingdom and China and operates a 24-hour hotline in support of excellent customer service.
