Kansas Department of Commerce to host Kansas Pavilion at Summer Fancy Food Show in New York

Eight Kansas specialty food companies will market their products and connect with industry members from around the world June 27-29 at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.

The eight companies - Original Juan Specialty Foods (Kansas City), New Grass Bison Co. (Shawnee), Browniepops, LLC (Leawood), Heffys BBQ (Olathe), One Bite Specialty Foods (Overland Park), The Pantry Shelf Co. (Hutchinson), Rabbit Creek Products (Louisburg) and Louisburg Cider Mill (Louisburg) - will locate together in the Kansas Pavilion, which is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Commerce’s Rural Development Division.

“We’re excited to lead this group of Kansas specialty food companies to the Summer Fancy Foods Show,” said Carole Jordan, Director of the Rural Development Division. “This is a great opportunity for the individual companies to showcase their products and, in a bigger sense, to promote the entire state of Kansas at one of the specialty food industry’s premier events.”

The Summer Fancy Foods Show in New York is regarded as one of the premier specialty food shows in the nation and draws between 19,000 and 32,000 attendees from specialty food, wine, gift and department stores, supermarkets, restaurants and related businesses. Attendees come to see more than 1,000 exhibitors from around the world, presenting more than 100,000 specialty foods. Business booms at these trade-only shows, in a unique decision-maker-to-decision-maker environment. Nearly 90 percent of attendees either authorize or recommend purchasing decisions. Visit www.specialtyfood.com/fancy-food-show/ for details.

This is the fourth consecutive year the Kansas Department of Commerce has organized a delegation of companies and sponsored a Kansas Pavilion at the Summer Fancy Foods Show. In 2007, Olathe cookie company Best Regards had its Snickerdoodle cookies featured on the Sept. 14 edition of the nationally syndicated Rachael Ray show after being discovered by Rachael Ray producers at the Kansas Pavilion.

Six of the eight companies participating in this year’s Pavilion are members of the Simply Kansas program, a trademark program designed to promote agricultural experiences and products grown, raised or produced in Kansas. The program offers Kansas producers resources such as marketing and technical assistance; educational opportunities designed for business owners and entrepreneurs; and eligibility for the Business Enhancement Grant for marketing and consulting fees.
