The Kansas Downtown Symposium will be held Oct. 12-14 in Independence. The event features information and success stories about the Kansas Main Street program, which provides management training, consultation visits, local program evaluation, design assistance and other services to communities looking to undertake economic development projects.
WHAT: Kansas Downtown Symposium, sponsored by the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Kansas Main Street program, Independence Main Street Inc., the City of Independence and the Independence Convention and Visitors Bureau.
WHEN/WHERE: Events begin at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 12; 8 a.m. Oct. 13; and 9 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Independence Memorial Hall, 410 N. Penn Ave., Independence, Kan. 67301.
EVENT AGENDA: The Oct. 12 agenda features a bus tour of southeast Kansas Main Street districts and a visit to Bartlesville, Okla. The Oct. 13 schedule includes a series of speakers and breakout sessions focusing on different aspects of downtown revitalization efforts and best practices. The evening ends with an awards dinner recognizing exceptional Main Street efforts. The final day’s itinerary features a session on developing young entrepreneurs. REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Full conference registration is $145 and includes all educational sessions, handouts, breaks and the awards dinner. One-day registration is $70 and includes that day’s educational sessions and breaks only. Meals and special events can be added at additional cost. Deadline to register is Sept. 30.
