Department of Commerce creates Kansas Minority and Women Business Directory

The Kansas Department of Commerce has started the Kansas Minority and Women Business Directory as a resource guide for purchasing agents, contractors and others involved in procurement and contracting of goods and services.

“Our intention is to encourage and foster economic linkages between public and private sector entities and disadvantage, minority and women-owned business,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “This is another resource that the Department of Commerce can provide to help promote these businesses.”

Currently, the directory consists of 350 businesses that have been certified by the Department through its Statewide Certification Program. Certifications offered include disadvantage business enterprise (DBE), minority business enterprise (MBE) and women business enterprise (WBE). For those interested in becoming certified, review the eligibility criteria and download the application by visiting the Minority and Women Business Home page at KansasCommerce.com/minoritywomenbusiness.

In the near future, non-certified minority and women-owned businesses also will have the opportunity to list their businesses, said Rhonda Harris, director of the Department’s Office of Minority and Women Business Development.

The directory is located at KansasCommerce.com/minoritywomendirectory.

For more information, contact Harris at (785) 296-3425 or rharris@kansascommerce.com.
