Energy Incentives

The Department of Commerce assists and supports sustainable development of the renewable energy industry, which encompasses ethanol, biodiesel and cellulosic technologies, as well as wind and biomass energy in Kansas. As a traditional agricultural leader and a state blessed with tremendous natural resources, Kansas is positioned to be a forerunner in the area of renewable energy production.

The Department of Commerce offers a diverse portfolio of financial incentives to Kansas businesses and producers engaged in conventional and renewable energy production. For more information on these incentives, view the Energy Incentives document.

Income tax credits are available to taxpayers making an investment in energy production. The taxpayer should submit a Pre-Application to the Department of Commerce before making a qualified investment in an energy project. Pre-Applications may be found at the following links:

Pre-Application for Refinery

Pre-Application for Renewable Electric Cogeneration

Pre-Application for Biomass to Energy Projects

Pre-Application for Storage and Blending Equipment
