As the state’s lead economic development agency, the Kansas Department of Commerce strives to empower individuals, businesses and communities to achieve prosperity in Kansas.
Under the leadership of Secretary of Commerce Antonio Soave, the Department comprises a variety of programs and services that create jobs, attract new investment, provide workforce training, encourage community development and promote the state as a wonderful place to live and work. This is accomplished through the department’s two divisions:
In Fiscal year 2012, the Department of Commerce expended $179.9 million to programs that benefited the economy and quality of life in Kansas. The Department’s funding was comprised of 14.5 percent state funding (including the Economic Development Initiatives Fund and State General Fund), 24.4 percent federal funding and 61.1 percent from special revenue funds. Nearly 63.4 percent of that money was invested in local communities and businesses throughout the state.
