Attractions and Recreation

The Northrup Theater in Syracuse opened April 7, 1930. The building has been restored and is operated by the Chamber of Commerce.  For about five miles just west of Syracuse, highway US 50 follows the original path of the mountain route of the Santa Fe Trail. If you're feeling adventurous, take the river road along the south side of the river from Syracuse to Coolidge. It is a beautiful drive with the Arkansas River on one side, surrounded by cottonwoods, and on the other side, sage covered hills and wildflowers.
The Tamarisk Golf Course is a nine-hole regulation length course, fully irrigated, situated along the beautiful Arkansas River. Golf carts are available for rent. A club house, looking out over a lake, has a full range of services available including a golf shop, snack shop, driving range and meeting rooms.

South of Syracuse you will find The Syracuse Sand Dunes. The Syracuse Sand Dunes is an ATV sand park that offers 1,300 acres of sandhills. Next to the dunes is Sam’s Pond, a Communities Fisheries Assistance Program lake. Fishing for channel catfish and largemouth bass along with camping is available at the park. To find out about other attractions in Hamilton county, click here.
