Mitchell County
Attractions and Recreation

Mitchell County has abundant natural resources. Hunting and fishing are two strong tourist industries. Hunting Lodges and vast public land provide great opportunities to hunt pheasant, deer, turkey and other game. Waconda Lake and Glen Elder State Park offer prime fishing opportunities for walleye, several varieties of bass, catfish and other pleasurable fishing.

Sportsman can also enjoy a round of golf at the Beloit Country Club nine-hole course or the Cawker City nine-hole course near Waconda Lake.

Additional attractions for visitors and residents include the World’s Largest Ball of Twine. Located in Cawker City, this ball of twine was started in 1953 and to date weighs almost nine tons. The Mitchell County Historical Society Museum in Beloit, houses exhibits representing each of the towns in the county. The City of Beloit will also open a new, modern swimming pool this year with a lazy river and several special water features.
