Ness County
Attractions and Recreation

Ness county is home to many hunting and fishing locations. Fishing enthusiasts can visit Goodman Dam or Cedar Bluff Reservoir. Hunters will find easy access to game birds, including quail, pheasant and dove. Deer hunting is abundant as well with over 15,000 acres of land for walk-in hunting.
For the history buffs, Ness county doesn’t disappoint. You can find the George Washington Carver Homestead. Mr. Carver was an African American known for his agricultural discoveries. You’ll also find the Historic Tilley House, a house built from native limestone in 1898 by Henry Tilley, a well-known stonemason. The house now operates as Prairie Cottage Guesthouse. Indian Hill is a silhouette of a steel Indian on top of the hill. It represents an Indian battle that occurred there. There are still visible ridges of trenches that were used to defend the white man from the Indians.

The Christ Pilot Me Hill marker is a beautiful limestone tribute that has been on a hill near Bazine since the 1940s. Dedicated to the men and women who served our country, the Ness County Veterans Memorial & Park honors Ness county veterans.

For those wanting to take a drive in the countryside, the Smoky Valley Scenic Byway takes you through 60 miles of west central Kansas. The Byway offers a show place of native wildflowers and grasses through the seasons.
