Smith Center is home to the infamous Smith Center Redmen Football Program. This high school football program has won 67 games in a row and 5 State Championships.  Smith Center and the Redmen are the subject of the book, “Our Boys: A Perfect Season on the Plains with the Smith Center Redmen”, written by Joe Drape of the New York Times.  This book was on the New York Times Best Seller list and is on the Kansas Reads best book list for 2012. 

Smith Center has the Smith Center Municipal Golf Course, a public nine-hole course, public tennis courts and a digital theatre that’s open seven days a week.  Some local tourist attractions are: The Old Dutch Mill, a grain mill from the 1880s, Higley Cabin, where “Home on the Range” was written, Center of the United States Marker and Little Miss Liberty.  For more information on additional attractions, click here.
